Plougonvelin

The commune of Plougonvelin is characterized by the diversity of its sites.

• The first and more requested are that of the beach of Trez-Hir which accomodates all the year tourism of proximity.
• Another whose notoriety is not any more to show is the Point Saint- Mathieu, proud advanced towards the sea, whose headlight top of its 56 meters takes care of the safety of the sailors. This great site is rich in history :

• An abbey, rested by Tanguy Saint at the VI ième century
• A museum which one owes with the Association of the Friends of Saint-Mathieu, who reveals the origins and the history of the Abbey
• The National Monument of the Sailors perished at sea, set up in 1923.
• The Point Mathieu Saint profited from an installation ensured by the Mixed Trade union for the Adjustment and the Protection of the Holy Site of the Point Saint-Mathieu, in 2000 and 2001.

More close to the centre town, on a rock piton, the Fort of Bertheaume also wakes up the curiosity of the visitors. This old military site, bought by the commune of Plougonvelin in 1990, is from now on a place of exposures and spectacles.

The history of Plougonvelin is also seen color : in the borough, mural frescos judiciously laid out on the frontages of communal or deprived buildings, recall the life of the trade at the beginning of the century.

Plougonvelin is the seaside resort of the Country of Iroise and a commune of holiday and habitat very appraisal. It profited, since the Eighties of a great communal dynamics which made common a headlight of it and from reference, with modern and inventive tourism.
